frequently asked questions

✹ ☽

  • I open my books once every few months for appointments roughly 1-3 months in advance. This means that you can’t always book an appointment, & sometimes have to wait for my books to open before you can send an inquiry

I always post up-to-date information in my Instagram highlight ‘booking info’

I do get reschedules and cancellations fairly regularly - so if you’re looking for an appointment on short notice, please keep an eye on my Instagram stories which is where I post cancellation spaces

  • Please avoid sending inquiries while my books are closed - the consultation is part of the booking process so it’s easier if you wait until I am able to book you in before we spend time discussing ideas

I avoid doing consultations when my books are closed because it may be several month before I’m able to tattoo you, in which time you might change tour idea and require a new consultation anyway

  • I charge per piece, not by hourly rate - so the price will depend on the size, complexity, and placement of the tattoo you would like to get

Tattoos are a luxury product and require high levels of concentration and physical strain to create, so may be more expensive than you anticipate

I’ll always attempt to accommodate budgets, so if you let me know what you price limit is I can suggest a tattoo to fit within that

  • I work from Love More Tattoo in central Brighton

The address is available on Google Maps, but directions can sometimes lead you the wrong way - we are down an alley called Orange Row that’s between the Utility Store and The Dorset pub on North Road, opposite GAK (the big yellow building)

  • Unfortunately not, the studio space is quite small, and there isn’t enough space in the tattoo area for clients to bring company

If you’re bringing a friend into town with you, it’s best to send them off for a coffee or some shopping, and meet them when you’re done

If it’s a necessity that you bring a friend or carer with you, please let me know in advance

  • I can’t say for certain as it depends on how many requests I receive during each round of bookings, but please allow at least a week to hear back and try not to double-message

I aim to reply to everyone, regardless of whether I can offer you an appointment or not

However, I will sometimes post on my Instagram once my books are full and that will let you know if there’s no more availability for each round of appointments

  • I require a deposit to secure every booking, which is between £50-£150 depending on the overall price of your tattoo

Deposits can only be taken via PayPal

Deposits are non-refundable for outright cancellation. If you need to reschedule, please give me at least 72 hours notice to avoid forfeiting the deposit

  • Yes, but it is dependent on the tattoo or scarring you would like covered, and what you would like it covered with

As a general rule - coverup tattoos must be 4x larger than the tattoo we’re covering

Scarring must be at least 2 years healed before it can be tattooed over

Please let me know in your inquiry if the piece you’re after is a coverup of some kind

To see my coverup works, please see my Instagram highlight titled “cover-ups”

  • I offer free retouch appointments when necessary on my work - you can book a retouch appointment whether my books are open or closed

Please send me a message on Instagram, or e-mail lanaferntattoo@gmail.com with a clear photo of your tattoo so I can see how much retouching is needed

I reccommend letting your tattoo heal for 2 months before requesting a touchup

  • For ornamental or illustrative designs, or if specifically requested, I’m happy to send over a sketch of your design 1-2 days before your appointment

For large scale floral designs, I freehand directly onto the skin - but can provide a rough sketch beforehand if you would like to see what it will look like

Please keep in mind that a design on your screen will not look exactly the same as the design on your skin

  • Please don’t book your appointment within 4 weeks of a holiday where you’re likely to be swimming or in sunshine

Your tattoo needs a minimum of 4 weeks to heal - during which time it cannot be submerged in water (no baths or swimming) or exposed to sunlight, fake tan, or tanning beds

Exposing your fresh tattoo to sunlight or soaking it in water can damage the tattoo and lead to ink bleeds, thicker lifework, and/or ink dropout - some of which can be permanent and irreversible

  • I do not copy other artists work

I only tattoo in my style of fineline blackwork, you can see examples of this in the gallery or on my instagram page

I’m happy to use references as inspiration to get an idea of the kind of thing you’d like, but I will never copy a design from another source

  • I can only accept payments via cash or PayPal, there is no card reader available at the studio

For small bookings, cash is preferred

For large bookings, 50% cash and 50% PayPal transfer is preferred

  • I use a skin protection called TattooMed, which is a clear, breathable plaster similar in appearance to cling film

You can leave this covering on for 3 days, and you can shower with it on

After removing the covering you must moisturise the tattoo twice a day with something natural and unscented such as cocoa butter or coconut oil (we sell small tubs of aftercare balm at the studio)

Please keep your new tattoo out of water and sunlight for at least 4 weeks

(full aftercare information will be provided at your appointment)

  • Please moisturise the area for tattooing with something like Palmers Cocoa Butter in the weeks leading up to your appointment - this will ensure that your skin is in the best possible condition for tattooing

Please do not drink heavily in the days leading up to your appointment, as this can thin your blood and make the tattooing process more difficult

Eat something substantial the morning of your appointment, and try to be as hydrated as possible

Feel free to bring with you any snacks, drinks, entertainment, or comfort items you might like

  • The main tattooing area is up a small flight of stairs - however, if stairs are difficult or not an option for you - please let me know in advance and arrangements will be made to setup a workstation at ground floor level
